The first services held in Smithville by a Oneness Pentecostal were held in 1945 by Sister Trudie Colvert. For some years they held services intermittently, then more regularly. In 1952 the first building was purchased . In 1985, the original congregation, known as First United Pentecostal Church located on Short Mountain Highway, suffered a catastrophic loss of their building in a fire. At this time, the congregation, under the leadership of Pastor Larry Sims, Purchased the property at our present location. A short time later, Pastor Sanders became pastor of the Laurel Hill UPC located on HWY 70 east, and Pastor C. W. Milam was pastor of the Calvary UPC located near the airport on Allen’s Chapel Rd. Because of several conditions and situations, the three churches and pastors began to discuss the combining of their congregations and operations in one location. In a world accustomed to hearing of church splits, it came as somewhat of a surprise to many when these three churches made the decision to merge into one congregation. In a special merger service in August of 1987, Pastor Paul Sanders was installed as Pastor of New Life United Pentecostals Church. Pastor Sanders served faithfully until his health forced his retirement in 2006. New Life experienced consolidation, revival, and growth during the pastorate of this great man. After several months of prayerful consideration, Pastor Dwayne Cornelius was elected and accepted the pastorate of New Life on March 25, 2007. Today we are blessed to have this experienced Pastor and his family to serve this church. He brought a wonderful family to bless New Life, including our First Lady, Heather Cornelius, and three beautiful children, Alexis, Andrew, and Logan.
